Shopping: Sherway Gardens
Sherway Gardens is one of many shopping centres in the GTA, it is located in the mid-lower part of Etobicoke, Toronto @ Queensway & Highway 427, and is my local shopping mall :).
The mall is home to over 200 stores, of all varieties and offers something to all social classes. The mall is part of Cadillac Fairview chain of malls in 1971 but between 1989 to 1991 major renovations were made to expand the mall, create more parking spaces (6000 total) and add a food court of the second floor.
The mall takes up 980,000 square feet and has four major 'anchor' or department stores being Sears, Holt Renfrew and Sporting Life.
Sherway, was the first mall in Canada, to open a 'Abercrombie and Finch' and 'Hollister' store. In 2007 the mall was praised for their strict no smoking policy on property for both visitors and employees
If you are in the area, I would definitely check this place out, you shouldn't be disappointed. I love their food court they have everything you would want! No matter what meal of the Day.
Check out their website here - http://www.sherwaygardens.ca/en/Pages/default.aspx

What regions make up the GTA?
So, we established the parts of the city of Toronto, this is be a brief post I want to quickly update, so in later posts, you will have a better understanding of the contexts and location of the topic.
The GTA is comprised of 5 regions
-York
-Halton
-Peel
-Durham
-Toronto
The area has a population of about 5.6 million, which makes up a large portion of the population of the province.
Outer area is rich in agriculture, in 2001 the revenue from agriculture along was a whopping 6.1 billion dollars, the area is rich with water too, relating back to agriculture. There are many large bodies of water such as Lake Ontario, Lake Simcoe and the Kawartha Lakes.
The GTA is the second largest producer of automobiles in North America, all the the major automobiles companies function in the area with large assembly plants in Oakville and Aurora. The area covers a great deal of land 1725 km squared and uses 4 calling codes - (416) (647) (905) (705)
See map below for each city in the region and an image the Niagara Escarpment in the west of the GTA.

What municipalities make up Toronto?
You were to take a trip back in time between the 1950's - 1960's or before you would see that Toronto is an entirely different place. At this time, most of the land now called Toronto, was a collection of small towns. Many of these towns or 'villages' existed such as Long Branch, Weston, Islington, Swansea, Mimico, Forest Hill and Leaside to name a few. Also new housing operations created their own little villages and neighbourhoods such as Rexdale and Lambton.
As the population of Toronto grew, it became inefficient to have so many small towns operating in such close proximity, especially since some of the larger towns had their own mayors and emergency services. Over time these small towns clumped together ultimately creating six boroughs by 1967
- York
- East York
- Etobicoke
- Scarborough
- North York
- Toronto (the pre-established downtown area)
As the populations grew again and boroughs grew into cities (excluding East York) and the same problem occurred, running rapidly growing independent cities was not the way of the future. In March 1997 the citizens of these boroughs took part in a referendum to amalgamate the six regions to create a 'mega city'. In 1998 the 'City of Toronto Act' was victorious by about 3:1 and the City of Toronto we know today was formed.
The City of Toronto works similar to the City of New York, in the way that there is only one city but it is made up of important regions (Bronx, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island.)
The early villages also are important they make up some of the over 100 distinct neighbourhoods in Toronto, giving people in that area, a sense of pride and history.

Don't fret, ill be reviewing some of these areas at a later date, I hope you enjoyed my first true post
